Our Story

Great Kitchens & Baths is one of the most experienced and trusted home remodeling companies in east central Indiana. 

That’s because we’ve been helping people create spaces in their home that they absolutely LOVE for nearly 60 years.

Founded in 1961 by John and Betty West, we’re a family business to this day, run by Gary West (their son) and John West (their grandson). John began helping out in the company at the ripe old age of ten, as the shop sweeper (he officially joined as a qualified designer in 2003) and his sons, aged eight, seven, and two, will surely be starting their training any day now...!

We’re confident in our ability to handle any remodel or redesign project you might want done. And you can be confident that, over the course of the past six decades, we’ve dealt with every conceivable type of question, problem or design difficulty out there, so we’re 100% equipped to handle your needs.

We’ve seen lots of styles and trends come and go, but one thing has stayed the same: our family is here to provide great service and create dream living spaces for your family.

We create innovative designs, pair them with high-quality and beautiful products from industry-leading manufacturers, and then construct those designs to transform your home into a place that’s designed to make everything you do there feel easy and great.

We want you to fall in love with your remodeled kitchen or bathroom, and the process of creating it to be as stress-free, risk-free and enjoyable as possible.

Meet Our Team

John West, Lead Designer

Some early childhood memories for John included long trips to Jasper, IN to pick up loads of cabinets with his Dad (just to play Spiderman on the stacks of boxes that filled the back end), and building cardboard forts with his brother using empty appliance and cabinet packaging. 

John grew up in the business that his grandparents started and worked around the shop and on job sites during summer breaks (which wasn’t quite as fun as his fort-building days!)

He has degrees from Wabash College and Ball State University, and joined the company full-time in 2003. He earned his AKBD (Associate Kitchen & Bath Designer) certification from the NKBA in 2010. John lives with his wife Shelly (coincidentally from Jasper!) and three sons (Jackson, Lane, and Caden) in Yorktown. 

When not coaching, shuttling, or attending the boys’ various sports teams and activities, the family enjoys traveling together....usually to warmer climates with sand and salty air!

Gary West, Project Manager

Although still quite young at the time, Gary has been with the family business that his parents started from “the beginning”. For most of the company history he wore many hats… from designer to installer to project manager to chief window washer. 

Today, Gary focuses primarily on managing current projects, drawing on his many years of design and field experience to ensure that our clients get the highest quality results. He earned his Bachelor’s degree from Ball State University, and in 1995 he earned his CKD/CBD certifications (Certified Kitchen Designer and Certified Bath Designer).

In 2009, Gary was awarded with the prestigious CMKBD (Certified Master Kitchen and Bath Designer). He also has been very active in the National Kitchen & Bath Association (NKBA). He has sat on numerous committees and held many leadership positions within the association over the years, including the Indiana state Chapter President in 1981 and 1992 and the National President of the NKBA in 2001. 

Gary lives with his wife Deborah in Yorktown. They enjoy spending time with their six grandsons, traveling, and having their “lake time” at Dewart Lake.

Arlien Du Preez, Office Manager

One of the first questions you will ask Arlien when you hear her on the phone or meet her in the showroom is “Where are you from?” Australia? Nope. England? Try again! Even though she gets asked a lot, she will still greet you with a smile, and warmly tell you that she hails from South Africa. 

Arlien and her husband, Ruan (also from South Africa), live in Greenfield with their cat (an American citizen), Chewbacca. Before moving to the U.S., Arlien worked in the real-estate industry and developed a love for working with people and enjoyed seeing what people did to beautify and personalize their homes. 

While admittedly an avid HGTV watcher, Arlien and Ruan also enjoy hiking outdoors and traveling around the U.S. Recent mini-adventures include Chicago, Cleveland, Pittsburgh, Pensacola, and Niagara Falls. Arlien is also a self-described amateur baker and coffee snob. 

Jordan Garringer, Lead Carpenter

Carpenter by day, vocalist and guitarist on evenings and Sundays...Jordan is a man of many talents! Jordan and his wife Lacie attend Westminster Presbyterian Church where he leads music with guitar, bass guitar, and vocals most Sundays. He is currently in a 6-month period as Interim Worship Director. 

Having been in the construction industry since 2002, Jordan was the lead carpenter on the new Muncie Mission build from 2007 - 2008. Jordan enjoys golf, trucks, iced tea, and bacon (but not in that order). Jordan and his wife, Lacie, just welcomed their first child, a son named Taylor.
